One Piece Episodes to Skip

94 filler episodes · 8.1% filler rate · 13 pure filler arcs · Updated weekly

Yes, you can skip One Piece filler. Out of 1,160 total episodes, only 94 are filler — that's an 8.1% filler rate, the lowest of any long-running shonen anime. Skipping them won't affect the main story, won't change which characters you meet, and won't lock you out of any plot points later.

But “skip all filler” is the wrong question for most viewers. The right question is: for the arc I'm currently watching, should I skip the filler attached to it, or push through? Some filler arcs are short, painless, and worth the 90 minutes — like the legendary G-8 Arc, which fans rate as one of the best stretches of the entire show despite being 100% anime-original. Others are 11 episodes of unrelated detours that drop you out of the main plot for hours.

This guide gives you a Saga-by-Saga skip plan, plus a “should you skip it?” verdict for each of the 13 pure filler arcs in One Piece. Use the Saga plan if you're already watching and need a quick answer. Use the per-arc verdicts if you want to know the exceptions before you commit.

If you want a stricter approach — every canon episode listed without filler clutter — see the canon-only watch path. If you want the underlying data, every filler episode is enumerated on the filler list. This page is the decision page: not what to watch, but what to confidently skip.

Skip Plan by Saga

The fastest way to use this page is to find the saga you're currently in and read just that section. Each entry tells you the exact episode ranges to skip, plus an estimated time saved if you skip them all.

East Blue Saga (Episodes 161)

Skip: 54-61 (Warship Island Arc, mostly filler with one or two mixed episodes you can skim).

The East Blue Saga is the cleanest part of the entire show — almost no filler at all in the main story. The Warship Island detour right at the end is anime-original. First-time viewers can skip the whole stretch without losing anything.

Time saved: ~3 hours.

Alabasta Saga (Episodes 62143)

Skip: 98-99, 102, 131-135 (Post-Alabasta filler).

Alabasta itself is fully canon and one of the show's strongest early arcs — don't skip anything in the main story. The short post-Alabasta filler stretch is the only thing to cut here.

Time saved: ~3 hours.

Sky Island Saga (Episodes 144206)

Skip: 136-138, 139-143 (Goat Island and Ruluka Island filler arcs at the start).

Watch: 196-206 (the G-8 Arc — see exception below).

This is the saga where filler-skip strategy really matters, because the G-8 Arc at the end is the single highest-rated filler arc in the show. Skip the early filler, keep G-8.

Time saved: ~3 hours if you skip Goat/Ruluka.

Water 7 Saga (Episodes 207336)

Skip: 220-224 (Ocean's Dream Arc).

The Water 7 Saga is one of the most acclaimed stretches in the entire series and is almost entirely canon. The brief Ocean's Dream detour after the Davy Back Fight is the only filler to cut.

Time saved: ~2 hours.

Thriller Bark Saga (Episodes 337384)

Skip: 326-336, 382-384 (Ice Hunter and Spa Island filler arcs).

Both filler arcs sit before and after Thriller Bark itself. The main arc is fully canon.

Time saved: ~6 hours.

Summit War Saga (Episodes 385522)

Skip: 426-429 (Little East Blue Arc — a movie tie-in for the Strong World film).

This saga contains Marineford, Impel Down, and the Sabaody return — almost no filler. The movie tie-in is short and easy to skip.

Time saved: ~1.5 hours.

Fishman Island Saga (Episodes 523578)

Skip: 575-578 (Z's Ambition Arc — Film Z tie-in, technically opens the next saga but functionally a Fishman Island epilogue).

Fishman Island itself is fully canon.

Time saved: ~1.5 hours.

Dressrosa Saga (Episodes 579746)

Skip: 747-750 (Silver Mine Arc — Film Gold tie-in).

Punk Hazard and Dressrosa are both fully canon. The post-Dressrosa filler is the only thing to cut.

Time saved: ~1.5 hours.

Yonko Saga (Episodes 7471030)

Skip: 780-782, 895-896, 1029-1030 (Marine Rookie, Cidre Guild, Uta's Past — three short filler detours).

Skim: Late-Wano expansion episodes (mixed canon, not filler — slow but contain real material).

This is the longest saga, but actual pure filler is minimal.

Time saved: ~3 hours.

Final Saga (Episodes 10861160)

Skip: nothing yet.

Egghead and Elbaph have zero filler so far. The Final Saga has been the most canon-faithful stretch in the show's history.

Pure Filler Arcs — Should You Skip It?

Below is every pure filler arc in One Piece — 13 total, ranging from 2 to 11 episodes each. For each arc, we give you a one-line verdict (Skip / Skim / Watch), what you'd be skipping, and what (if anything) makes it worth keeping.

The default answer for every filler arc is skip. The exceptions are clearly flagged.

Post-Alabasta Arc (Episodes 131135)

Verdict: Skip. Five filler episodes immediately after the Alabasta finale, mostly focused on Koby and Helmeppo's Marine training. While Koby's growth here is referenced briefly later when he reappears at Marineford, the same context is given again in his canon scenes. Nothing here is essential. Skip without hesitation — the Sky Island Saga setup begins immediately after.

Goat Island Arc (Episodes 136138)

Verdict: Skip. A 3-episode detour right after Alabasta where the Straw Hats land on an island ruled by a stranded old man and his herd of goats. Pure post-arc breather material with no plot relevance and no character development that carries forward. If you want a Luffy-being-goofy break after the heavy Alabasta finale, watch one episode. Otherwise, skip the whole stretch and move directly to the Davy Back Fight.

Ruluka Island Arc (Episodes 139143)

Verdict: Skip. Five filler episodes immediately after Goat Island, set on a floating island ruled by a corrupt mayor with a flying-castle gimmick. The animation is dated and the antagonist is forgettable. None of the worldbuilding here is referenced again. Skip if pressed for time is the safest call — these are arguably the weakest five episodes of the early show. Move directly to Episode 144 and the start of the Jaya Arc.

G-8 Arc (Episodes 196206)

Verdict: WATCH IT. This is the famous exception. The G-8 Arc, set inside a Marine fortress called Navarone after the Straw Hats accidentally drop in from Skypiea, is a self-contained heist-comedy that fans rank above many canon arcs. IMDb episode ratings sit at 8.5+. The Marine vice admiral Jonathan is one of the most beloved one-off characters in the entire show. If you skip only one filler arc in One Piece, do not let it be this one.

Ocean's Dream Arc (Episodes 220224)

Verdict: Skip. A 5-episode filler where the Straw Hats lose their memories due to a sleep-stealing villain. The premise is interesting on paper but the execution drags, the antagonist is forgettable, and the resolution resets everything. Some viewers enjoy seeing the crew piece their memories back together, but nothing carries over to canon. Skip if pressed for time — you'll lose nothing. Worth a watch only if you're a completionist.

Ice Hunter Arc (Episodes 326336)

Verdict: Skip. Eleven episodes of Marines hunting the Straw Hats across a frozen archipelago, with original villains (the Accino Family) who are never referenced again. The arc tries to be a high-stakes chase but the pacing is uneven and the fights are forgettable. At nearly five hours of runtime, this is the second-longest filler arc in the show — the time investment isn't worth it. Skip directly to Thriller Bark at Episode 337.

Spa Island Arc (Episodes 382384)

Verdict: Skip. A short 3-episode filler sandwiched between Thriller Bark and the Sabaody Archipelago. The crew visits a resort island and tangles with a low-stakes villain. None of it lands. The arc exists purely to give the manga a few weeks to build a buffer. Skip without hesitation — Sabaody (the gateway to Marineford) starts immediately after.

Little East Blue Arc (Episodes 426429)

Verdict: Skim if interested in Strong World, otherwise skip. Four filler episodes that serve as a direct tie-in to the One Piece: Strong World movie. Watching the arc adds context to the film, but skipping it costs you nothing for the main story. If you're planning to watch Strong World, watch this first. If not, skip directly to Episode 430 and the Marineford war buildup.

Z's Ambition Arc (Episodes 575578)

Verdict: Skim if you plan to watch Film Z, otherwise skip. A 4-episode tie-in to the 2012 movie One Piece Film: Z, introducing the antagonist Zephyr (a former Marine instructor). The episodes are technically anime-original but Oda was involved in the design of Zephyr, giving them light side-canon weight. Watch only if you intend to follow up with Film Z. The main story doesn't reference Zephyr anywhere.

Silver Mine Arc (Episodes 747750)

Verdict: Skim if you plan to watch Film Gold, otherwise skip. Four filler episodes that bridge to the One Piece: Film Gold movie. Luffy is captured by an obsessive collector named Bill on a small mining island. The arc exists to give Bartolomeo screen time and set up Film Gold's antagonist faction. Skip unless you're committed to the movie tie-in path. Skip if pressed for time — Whole Cake Island starts soon and is fully canon.

Marine Rookie Arc (Episodes 780782)

Verdict: Skip. A 3-episode filler set on Karakuri Island just before Whole Cake. The Straw Hats encounter Marine recruits and a runaway homie. It's short and harmless but adds nothing. Skip without hesitation — Whole Cake Island is one of the most acclaimed arcs in the show and you'll want to start it fresh.

Cidre Guild Arc (Episodes 895896)

Verdict: Skim if you plan to watch Stampede, otherwise skip. Two filler episodes serving as a prologue to the 2019 movie One Piece: Stampede. The Cidre Guild is a soda-themed pirate group that never appears outside this short detour. Even at just two episodes, the connection to Wano (which immediately follows at Episode 897) is zero. Watch only if you're going to follow up with Stampede. Otherwise skip directly to Wano.

Uta's Past Arc (Episodes 10291030)

Verdict: Skim if you plan to watch Film Red, otherwise skip. A 2-episode flashback set during the Wano Arc that explores the childhood relationship between Shanks's adopted daughter Uta and Luffy. It's the prologue to the 2022 movie One Piece: Film Red. The flashback contains real Shanks-era backstory that some fans appreciate, but none of it is referenced in the main canon. Watch if you're going into Film Red; otherwise skip and stay in Wano.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I skip all filler in One Piece?
Yes — except the G-8 Arc (Episodes 196-206), which most fans treat as honorary canon. Skipping every other filler arc removes about 80 episodes (around 32 hours of runtime) and won't break the main story. If you'd rather see the full list of canon episodes laid out by saga, use our canon-only watch path.
Are there any filler episodes worth watching?
Three exceptions: G-8 (always worth it), Z's Ambition / Silver Mine / Cidre Guild / Uta's Past (worth it only if you plan to watch the related movies — Film Z, Film Gold, Stampede, and Film Red respectively), and the anime canon episodes (different category — see our filler list for the distinction). Everything else can safely be skipped.
What's the most-skipped filler arc?
The Ice Hunter Arc (326-336) is the most commonly skipped because it's the longest filler arc in the show at 11 episodes — nearly five hours — and adds nothing to the main story. The Ocean's Dream Arc (220-224) and the post-Alabasta filler block (131-143) are close behind.
What about mixed canon/filler episodes?
Mixed canon episodes contain real story material padded with anime-original scenes. They're not skippable in the same way — you can fast-forward the filler portions, but the canon material is genuine. The most heavily mixed arc is Wano, which expands manga chapters with extra animation. Most viewers watch mixed episodes at normal speed since the canon content is meaningful.
Will I miss anything by skipping all filler?
In terms of plot, no. In terms of light side-canon (movie tie-ins, character backstory expansions), maybe. The biggest gaps you'd create by skipping all filler are the Strong World, Film Z, Film Gold, Stampede, and Film Red movie connections — but each movie also works as a standalone film with its own setup. If you skip filler and watch the movies separately, you'll lose almost nothing.
