One Piece Filler List

94 filler episodes · 8.1% filler rate · 1,160 total episodes · Updated weekly

What Is Filler in One Piece?

Out of the 1,160 episodes that have aired since 1999, only 94 are filler — a 8.1% rate that puts One Piece among the most canon-faithful long-running shounen anime. By comparison, Naruto's filler rate sits at 41% and Bleach reaches 45%. That difference adds up to dozens, sometimes hundreds, of hours saved across a full watch.

The labels used on this page follow the standard fan classification. Manga canon episodes adapt directly from Eiichiro Oda's original manga — every plot beat you'd recognize from the source material is here. Filler episodes are anime-original side stories that don't appear in the manga, can be skipped without losing main story context, and are mostly concentrated in standalone arcs between major manga arcs. Mixed canon/filler episodes adapt manga material but extend it with anime-only scenes, often during slower chapters where Toei Animation needed to stretch the runtime — most are skippable but a few contain useful character moments, so we mark them yellow rather than red. Anime canon episodes are anime-original content that the franchise's official guides (and Oda himself) have endorsed as part of the broader story. Only 21 episodes carry this label, and most viewers consider them worth keeping.

The labels matter because they translate directly into hours. A first-time viewer who watches every aired episode spends roughly 470 hours getting through One Piece. Skipping all 94 filler episodes saves about 38 hours. Trimming mixed canon as well brings the total down further. For most viewers, the canon-only path lands at 1,066 episodes — long, but not unmanageable. If you want the trimmed list with no filler at all, see the canon-only watch path.

Why Does One Piece Have So Little Filler?

Three structural reasons, in order of weight. First, Oda's pacing. One Piece has been running weekly in Weekly Shōnen Jump since 1997, with Oda taking unusually short breaks compared to peers. Toei has rarely needed to slow the anime down to wait for the manga because Oda has built up enough chapter buffer that the anime can produce roughly one episode per chapter — the natural ratio. Naruto and Bleach, by contrast, hit long stretches where the anime caught up entirely and had to invent original arcs to stall.

Second, the team adapts manga chapters with extension rather than invention. When Toei needs a slower week, the preferred trick is “drag” — adapting one or two manga chapters into a full episode by extending fight scenes, adding flashback sequences, and re-cutting reaction shots. The result lands on this page as mixed canon/filler (43 episodes total), not as pure filler. From a viewer's standpoint, mixed canon is still mostly canon: you're watching the manga story, just slower. Pure filler arcs are rare because Toei prefers extending over inventing.

Third, the production schedule has gradually shifted away from dedicated filler arcs. Most pure filler arcs cluster in the show's first decade — examples include Post-Alabasta, Goat Island, Ruluka Island, G-8. After the Marineford Arc, dedicated filler arcs become much rarer. The Wano Country Arc, despite running 192 episodes across multiple production blocks, contains only 1 filler episode — well under one percent of its runtime. Modern One Piece is essentially filler-free.

How to Use This List

The page below is organized in four sections you can skip between depending on what you need. The Quick Skip Lists give you compressed episode-range strings for each of the four episode types — useful if you're maintaining a watchlist and want to mark episodes as “skip” in bulk. The Pure Filler Arcs section lists the 13 arcs that are 100% anime-original; these are the safest skips, since every episode in them is filler and no plot threads carry into the next manga arc. The Mostly-Canon Arcs With Some Filler section covers arcs that are largely canon but include scattered filler episodes — useful when you're already watching an arc and want to know which episodes inside it you can drop. The Complete Filler Episode List at the bottom gives every individual filler episode with title, arc, and air date, useful as a reference when you're trying to identify a specific episode you remember. For a decision-by-decision skip guide that goes beyond the binary watch/skip choice, see the full skip guide.

Quick Skip Lists

Compressed episode ranges grouped by type — copy the ranges into your watchlist or use them as a quick reference while you stream.

📒 MIXED CANON/FILLER (watch with caution): 43 episodes

45-47, 61, 68-69, 101, 226, 354, 421, 489, 520, 574, 625, 628, 633, 653, 657, 679, 690, 731, 738, 751, 777-778, 789, 803, 807, 878-879, 881-885, 887-890, 924, 988-989, 991

These contain both canon and filler segments. Fast-forwarding the filler scenes is an option — see the Skip Guide for episode-by-episode recommendations.

📗 MANGA CANON (essential viewing): 1,002 episodes

These episodes adapt the manga directly and form the core story. For a complete canon-only watch order with episode-by-episode breakdown, see the Canon Only Guide →

📘 ANIME CANON (anime-original but considered canon): 21 episodes

50-51, 93, 213-216, 418-420, 453-456, 497-499, 506, 737, 775, 1084

Anime-original but considered canon. Some are recaps; others are story-relevant. See the Skip Guide for episode-by-episode recommendations.

Pure Filler Arcs (Skip All Episodes)

These 13 arcs are entirely or near-entirely anime-original. Skipping them loses no main-story context — the manga doesn't reference any of these events, and no later canon episode depends on them. A small note: a few feature side-canon characters in original stories (e.g., Foxy from Davy Back Fight, or film-derived characters in Z's Ambition and Cidre Guild). They're the safest places to start trimming if you want a faster watch.

Post-Alabasta Arc

Episodes 131135 · 5 eps · Alabasta Saga

After Alabasta wraps and Vivi stays behind, the crew sails on with newly-recruited Nico Robin still treated with cautious distance by everyone but Luffy. These five anime-original episodes fill the saga gap with low-stakes side encounters and crew-bonding beats that the manga handles in passing. None of these events surface again in canon. Safe to skip entirely.

Goat Island Arc

Episodes 136138 · 3 eps · Alabasta Saga

The Straw Hats land on a remote island populated entirely by goats, where they meet Zenny — an elderly former pirate hiding from his old crew while caring for the herd. Three filler episodes built around a small character study and a quiet treasure subplot, with no manga reference and no ties to later events. A pleasant low-stakes detour, but safe to skip if you're trimming.

Ruluka Island Arc

Episodes 139143 · 5 eps · Alabasta Saga

The Straw Hats arrive at Ruluka Island and tangle with the corrupt Wetton family, who exploit a strange power that lifts ships into floating Tower formations. Five episodes of villain-of-the-week storytelling with a forgettable antagonist and zero connection to the broader plot. In the manga, the timeline moves from Alabasta cleanup straight into Skypiea — none of this exists. Safe to skip entirely.

G-8 Arc

⭐ Fan Favorite

Episodes 196206 · 11 eps · Sky Island Saga

After plummeting from Skypiea, the Straw Hats land inside Marine fortress G-8 and must extract the Going Merry without being captured by Vice Admiral Jonathan — a calm, sharp strategist who refuses to underestimate them. Eleven episodes of disguise, cat-and-mouse infiltration, and genuinely earned tension. Anime-original with no manga touchpoint, but widely regarded as one of the strongest stretches in the series. Watch this one even if you're skipping every other filler arc.

IMDb 8.5+ — even strict skip-all viewers often watch this one.

Ocean's Dream Arc

Episodes 220224 · 5 eps · Water 7 Saga

A small demon-like creature steals the Straw Hats' memories one by one, leaving Robin — who happened to be reading off-ship — as the only one who remembers anything. Five episodes of low-stakes amnesia hijinks and a forgettable antagonist, slotted between the Davy Back Fight and its anime-only follow-up. The manga skips this entirely with no later references. Safe to skip.

Ice Hunter Arc

Episodes 326336 · 11 eps · Water 7 Saga

The Accino Family — a clan of pirate hunters who collect Jolly Roger flags as trophies — targets the Straw Hats in a frozen mountain stronghold. Eleven episodes of repetitive combat against forgettable antagonists, padding the gap between the Enies Lobby aftermath and Thriller Bark. Don Accino is invented for the anime and never resurfaces. The manga moves straight to Thriller Bark with none of this in between. Safe to skip entirely.

Spa Island Arc

Episodes 382384 · 3 eps · Thriller Bark Saga

Two young sisters drag the Straw Hats into searching for their missing father across a luxury resort island, only for the situation to unravel into a Marine ambush. Three episodes of resort-comedy and brief skirmish, sandwiched between Thriller Bark and Sabaody Archipelago. Anime-original with no manga counterpart and no later relevance. Safe to skip entirely.

Little East Blue Arc

Episodes 426429 · 4 eps · Summit War Saga

The Straw Hats stumble onto Little East Blue, a tiny island whose unique fauna draws the Amigo Pirates and their leader Largo, who serves the larger antagonist of the Strong World film. Four episodes that exist primarily to set up the movie's premise. The events aren't referenced in the manga, but viewers planning to watch Strong World will find this useful context. Optional — skip if you don't plan to see the film.

Z's Ambition Arc

Episodes 575578 · 4 eps · Fishman Island Saga

Set just after the timeskip, the Straw Hats encounter a strange giant child named Lily and cross paths with Zephyr — the rogue former Marine admiral whose vendetta against piracy drives the events of Film Z. Four episodes of setup with no manga reference and no later canon impact. Useful as warm-up before watching the film, but otherwise removable from a canon-only watch. Optional.

Silver Mine Arc

Episodes 747750 · 4 eps · Yonko Saga

Luffy is captured by the Silver Pirate Alliance and held in their mountain fortress while Bartolomeo races to break him out. Four episodes that bridge into the Heart of Gold TV special, set after Dressrosa and before the crew reunites for Zou. Bill and the Silver Mine itself never appear in the manga. Optional — adds context if you're watching Heart of Gold, otherwise safe to skip.

Marine Rookie Arc

Episodes 780782 · 3 eps · Yonko Saga

Short on supplies after leaving Zou, the Straw Hats raid a Marine training facility for food and clash with Grount, a young man with a personal grudge against the crew. Three episodes of light skirmish and one-off character drama before the Whole Cake Island arc begins. None of this is referenced in the manga or later anime. Safe to skip entirely.

Cidre Guild Arc

Episodes 895896 · 2 eps · Yonko Saga

A bounty hunter named Cidre and his crew of carbonated-weapon specialists ambush the Straw Hats in a brief two-episode skirmish. Designed as warm-up material for the Stampede film, the events have no manga origin and don't tie into the surrounding Wano storyline. Optional — adds minor context for Stampede, but skippable if you're not planning to see the film.

Uta's Past Arc

Episodes 10291030 · 2 eps · Yonko Saga

Two episodes flashing back to Shanks's pirate crew on Foosha Village, focusing on his adopted daughter Uta and her childhood bond with a young Luffy. Released to promote Film Red, this material is anime-original but became one of the most-discussed filler interludes due to the film's massive box-office success. Optional — essential context if you're watching Film Red, otherwise removable from a canon-only sequence.

Mostly-Canon Arcs With Some Filler

These 12 arcs are mostly manga canon but include scattered filler episodes. Use the table below to spot exactly which episodes inside each arc are skippable. For a decision-by-decision breakdown of which mixed arcs are worth a glance versus a hard skip, see the decision-by-decision skip guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which One Piece arcs have the most filler?
Of the 13 arcs that are 100% filler, the longest are G-8 Arc (11 episodes), Ice Hunter Arc (11 episodes), and Post-Alabasta Arc (5 episodes). Together they account for 27 of the show's 94 filler episodes by themselves. After that, several mid-sized filler arcs cluster in the 4-5 episode range, with the rest at 2-3 episodes apiece — short enough to skip in a single sitting. For a decision-by-decision breakdown of which filler arcs are worth a glance versus a hard skip, see the complete skip guide.
Are mixed canon episodes worth watching?
Mostly, yes. Mixed canon episodes (43 of the 1,160 total) adapt manga material but extend it with anime-only scenes — typically additional fight choreography, character reaction shots, or recap-style flashback sequences. Most are skippable for time, but a few contain extended versions of moments worth experiencing in full (the Marineford Arc has several mixed episodes that pad iconic battles with extra animation). The yellow marker on this page calls them out separately so you can decide per-arc rather than per-episode. If you want a strict no-filler-no-mixed path, the canon-only watch path gives you only manga canon and anime canon.
What's the difference between manga canon and anime canon?
Manga canon (1,002 episodes) is anime that adapts directly from Oda's manga — every plot beat, every character moment is something you'd find in the source material. Anime canon (21 episodes) is anime-original content that the franchise has endorsed as part of the broader story. The franchise has used anime canon sparingly: short character interludes, the Boss Luffy theatrical short adaptations, and a handful of episodes leading into film tie-ins. Both are essential viewing if you want the full story, and neither counts as filler. For the pure manga-canon path that excludes both anime canon and mixed canon, see the canon-only watch path.
Can I skip all filler and still understand the story?
Yes — completely. Filler episodes are anime-original side stories that don't appear in the manga and aren't referenced in any later canon episode. Skipping all 94 filler episodes brings One Piece down from 1,160 episodes to 1,066— roughly thirty hours saved without losing a single plot thread. The Straw Hats' main journey, every Devil Fruit reveal, every Yonko encounter, and every flashback Oda included in the manga is preserved on the canon path. The only thing you give up is the standalone adventure arcs that the anime team designed as breaks. If you'd like to follow only canon episodes in chronological order, the canon-only watch path has the full list.
Why are there so few One Piece fillers?
Three reasons. First, Oda's manga pacing has stayed consistent since 1997, giving Toei a healthy chapter buffer — the anime rarely catches up. Second, when Toei does need a slower week, they prefer to extend manga material with anime-only scenes (mixed canon, 43 episodes) rather than invent new filler arcs. Third, the production team has gradually moved away from dedicated filler arcs over the past decade — the Wano Country Arc, the longest in the series, contains only 1 filler episode out of 192. The result is a 8.1% filler rate, far below most long-running shounen anime. To browse the full arc structure that emerged from this approach, see all One Piece arcs.
